Evening Update - January 4, 2015

With the events of the day it seemed that an afternoon update was in order (which I have been trying to get written for the last few hours so it has now transformed to the evening update).  First off we would like to say that while today didn't look at all like we expected, we know that God is sovereign, that all that is unfolding is allowing Isaiah's body to rest and focus on healing his kidney.  There is peace.

Starting early this morning, Isaiah was not able to maintain his oxygen levels.  This was a change that was somewhat mysterious.  All other input from his body is marked improvement and would have supported removal of the vent.  The oxygen issue would not allow that, however.  We tried a few things to see if those numbers would turn around but they were not and extubation was put on hold.  We are back to "wait and see" as to when that might take place.

You can pray:

  • Isaiah is receiving a blood transfusion to increase his blood oxygen levels, we have already seen his oxygen numbers looking better.  Pray this continues and that ultimately Isaiah's body will respond by maintaining these levels on his own.
  • Finding the right balance of sedation grows more difficult as his little body metabolizes the drugs.  Pray for wisdom in managing his awake status.  Being somewhat awake is okay but agitated is not okay.
  • Some of the drugs effect his heart rate, you can pray that they do not go any lower.
  • Satan likes to stir doubt and worry when we encounter new questions.  Pray against his schemes and that the sovereignty of the Lord would be known into the depths of us.
It's been a long, non-stop day.  I think we are all feeling that now that it's calmed down a bit.  You can pray for rest and rejuvenation over night.

  2. This is Sara (Bakken) Lee, Rhonda's BFF from Sioux Falls days. RF (as she'll always be known to me!) and Evan have been keeping me posted on little Isaiah through FB. Your family was always like extended family to me, so I know what kind of support you have. Know you'll continue to be in my prayers as Isaiah heals. And may you continue to feel the comfort of God's loving arms around you.
