Evening Update - January 7, 2015

The doctor thinks Isaiah has ICU delirium, which is a real thing.  It is a brain disorder that occurs in 1 of 3 people who spend 5 or more days in an ICU or similar hospital setting.  The causes are varied but ultimately routine, familiar people, and time cause the delirium to end.  Once again we have encountered a step in Isaiah's healing where the prescription is "time."  This is so trying yet we are so thankful it is not something more serious.

I sense both feelings of peace and sadness from Anna and Steve.  They continue to rely fully on God's strength but it is so difficult to see a shell of their little boy looking back at them.

Please pray for peace in a renewed way.  Pray for Steve, specifically, who has been a rock, by God's grace.  The new questions and this reality, however temporary, are heavy on him.  Pray for Isaiah's body to rest deeply tonight, orienting to a proper day-night schedule.  Pray for his mind to work through this "time warp," as we have called life in the hospital, and to begin to put the pieces back in their proper places.  Pray for relief from any pain Isaiah is experiencing.  His throat pain, specifically, prevents him from wanting to swallow.

As a friend shared earlier,
"As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless.  He is a shield for all who take refuge in Him.  For who is God besides the Lord?  And who is the rock except our God?  It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.  He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights.  He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.  You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great." - Psalm 18:30-35

My thoughts and prayers have been with you practically non-stop! Isaiah is such a brave little boy. What journey he has been on. Steve and Anna, my prayers are for your strength, courage and peace as well. I can only imagine how difficult it is to see your baby like this. But you know God has him as He has the both of you.

Love n prayers today and always,
    Miki
